David Sparrow

Baltimore, MD

David Sparrow's natural penchant for melody and songcraft has permeated the local Los Angeles and greater Maryland music communities for the past fifteen years. A Baltimore native, David relocated to Los Angeles, forming the Americana-rock outfit The Whiskey Saints After releasing albums West and 24 Hours, The Whiskey Saints would soon evolve into the more straight-ahead rock grooves of Burning Jet Black David Sparrow’s songwriting contributions like “Tennessee” and “Jessica” would provide melodic and pop sensibilities in the Paul McCartney ethic, while his performances as the lead vocalist compliments the songs written by bandmate and collaborator Dave Bloomfield with a soulful weight in songs like “Under Los Angeles” and “Saved.”

When Burning Jet Black ran its course at the end of 2016, David had built up a substantial wealth of songs while performing solo stints around the west side of L.A. By 2017 production began on his debut solo album titled Beggars & Choosers Released in March of 2019, Beggars and Choosers represents a capstone of David’s time in Los Angeles. The album swells back and forth between tones of optimism, melancholy, romanticism, and confessional openness.

Since the release of Beggars and Choosers, David has since returned to Maryland to be closer to family. .

REviews for David SParrow

INdieShark - “There’s never a dull moment on his end in “Rescue Me” or the prickly “Give Me Some Truth” because of his assertiveness, and when listening to Beggars & Choosers in its entirety, kinship in this material becomes all the harder to ignore.

Ballyhoo Magazine - “Beggars & Choosers takes us where he wants to go rather than where we feel like it should wind up, which on its own makes it worthy of critical acclaim this spring.

Melody Maker - “Timing is everything in acoustic music, and it certainly adds to the emotional weight of Sparrow’s performance in “On My Side,” “Kim,” and “Changing Your Ways.” “Kim” has the bones of a really powerful ballad and the buoyancy of a folk-pop number, which is hardly an easy balance to strike, and if it’s giving us any sort of real look into what this singer/songwriter can develop when he’s got an affectionate hook and something credible to say with his words, he’s going to have a hard time staying an indie secret through 2022…This is not an album from a player who was destined to live on the left side of the dial, but instead a stretch towards the spotlight you won’t regret experiencing.

The Spotted Cat Magazine - “David Sparrow is, more or less, a troubadour with a taste for angular verses and the occasional indulgence in anti-cathartic poeticisms, and what he’s breaking down in this LP is far more sophisticated than what his hipster predecessors were ever known for releasing in their era.

Hollywood Digest - “There’s a lot to explore in Beggars & Choosers, but for those who have a special appreciation for the more methodical releases in contemporary folk music, it’s going to give you a tracklist that will be hard to put down once you’ve picked it up for the first time…Melancholy meets pure melodic might in Beggars & Choosers…David Sparrow is not the self-conscious singer/songwriter that a lot of his peers are, but he doesn’t need to be for us to experience his exposed side as a performer in Beggars & Choosers. He puts his heart on the table for us,
